On Sunday afternoon the community rallied behind twelve year-old Laurren Smith and her family by supporting a benefit car show in the parking lot behind National Tire and Battery. People showed up from Forney, Terrell, Crandall, and as far away as Mesquite and Dallas to support Laurren and her family.
Laurren is a twelve year-old young lady diagnosed with bone cancer in August 2007. On her website, which is updated often, it states, "Laurren was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma Bone Cancer on August 22, 2007 and underwent surgery on November 19, 2007 to remove the tumor and replace it with a prosthetic knee. She had 9 grueling months of chemo which was completed on April 26, 2008.
Laurren's cancer returned to her lung on June 2, 2008 and she underwent lung surgery on June 4, 2008 to remove the tumor in her right lung. She will undergo another 5 months of chemo. She will have in-patient chemo treatments for 5 days straight then be off for 2 weeks and return for another 5 days of chemo until November 2008."
The entire parking lot was filled with cars of all types ranging from antiques to the rare and unique. Vendors from various businesses were on hand to sell various products, with proceeds going towards a fund established to help pay for Laurren's expenses.
