Kaufman County Announces Recycling Drop-Off Service

Submitted by Commissioner Ray Clark's Office

November 14, 2008

Kaufman County Pct. 2 and the Environmental Co-op announce a new residential recycling drop-off site, to be located at the Precinct 2 maintenance barn at 12051 Precinct Circle, at the corner of FM 741 and FM 2932. The opening date is Thursday, November 20 at 11:30am.

“We are excited to partner with Ray Clark, Pct. 2 Commissioner, to develop this new service for the citizens of Kaufman County,” announced Glenna Brown, Program Manager for the Environmental Co-op. “Citizens have been asking for a convenient place to drop off their recycling.”

The drop-off site will be open from 7am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, and will be located inside the fenced area of the maintenance barn.

“We will have a container for co-mingled recycling of newspaper and cardboard and aluminum cans, steel cans and plastics #1 and #2. Typically, #1 plastics include soda bottles and water bottles, and #2 plastics are milk jugs and detergent bottles, “ explained Ms. Brown.

“To determine the correct number on a plastic container, look for the number in the triangle, usually on the bottom of a plastic container. In addition to newspaper and cardboard, other paper products, including cereal and cracker boxes, magazines and catalogs, office paper, school paper, paper grocery sacks and junk mail, can be recycled. We will not accept glass at this time due to a downturn in the market for glass.”

“There are several large neighborhoods in Pct. 2, and we want to encourage everyone in the area to use this site,” Ms. Brown said. “Involve everyone in the family in recycling—they can help! Talk about what can and cannot be recycled and have discussions about why recycling is important for the environment. We have information posted on our website at www.trashbusters.org that outlines the value of recycling and will help in these discussions.”

The new recycling drop-off site is made possible through a grant from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, with funding from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. For more information about the recycling facility, contact the Environmental Co-op at 972-524-0007.
