Earlier today a construction worker fell from a three story window at the Best
Western construction site located on FM 741 just behind McDonald’s, in Forney.
A construction worker clearing debris from the third floor slipped and fell out of
a large window opening as he tossed trash into a suspended trash box.
Forney ambulance, police, and fire crews arrived to find an extremely lucky worker
who is expected to make a full recovery from minor injuries, since his fall was broken
by landing on a small doorway awning.
According to the Project Manager, “workers used a wooden trash box attached to
the fork lift to collect trash. The fork lift then lowered the trash box and emptied
it into a nearby dumpster. He fell while tossing trash into the trash box.”
The Project Manager further elaborated that this procedure for trash removal from
upper floors “is not OSHA approved” and that this was the second recorded accident
at this site since construction began.
Reportedly the first accident occurred when a construction worker slipped and fell
from scaffolding along one wall on the structure.
