Forney Police are investigating two separate incidents of crimes involving explosive devices as well as burglaries, thefts and petty crimes.
According to a recent police statement, “on Friday, July 31, 2009 the Forney Police Department responded to an attempted arson in the 300 block of Lakewood Trail. Before officers arrived on the scene, the owner of the residence saw smoke and discovered a device under his work van.”
Forney Police stated “the owner had kicked out the lit fuse preventing a possible explosion. The device was crudely constructed from a glass container with items taped on it. Officers from the Forney Police recovered the device and contacted the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agency who assisted the Forney PD in evaluating the device. “
This crime is still under investigation and anyone with information concerning this incident should contact Lt. Mike Williams at the Forney Police Department as soon as possible at 972-552-3932.
Then on Saturday, August 1st at approximately 5:41 p.m., in a totally unrelated incident, Forney Police were dispatched to what was reported to Forney 911 as ‘criminal mischief’.
Subsequently Forney Police issued a statement declaring “owners of a local business discovered the front window of their store broken and fire damage inside the lobby area. A glass bottle with a burnt cloth protruding from the opening was recovered at the scene. It appeared the fire burned itself out before causing continued damage.”
The un-named business is Kids of Clay Daycare located just east of the Forney City Limit entrance and mere yards from Forney’s flags and Statue of Liberty.
The daycare center was closed at the time of the incident and according to a FPD Detective Clay “we have no suspects at this time,” so anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Lt. Mike Williams at the number listed above.
At 3:08 a.m. Tuesday, July 14th, Forney Police were dispatched to the Murphy’s Fuel Station located at 802 E. US Highway 80 adjacent to the Forney Wal-Mart parking lot on a possible “theft from building” call.
The gas station is located on the well lit corner of FM548 and US Hwy 80 and when Forney Police officers arrived they discovered “the door to the cash office open” and that $ 17,152.00 worth of “miscellaneous tobacco products” had been stolen.
Police reports reveal FPD officers reported “there was no one in site” and there are currently no suspects in this crime.
Continuing to investigate burglaries of new Forney homes still under construction, Forney PD responded on July 16th to Forney home developer, Megatel Homes.
Reportedly sometime on either July 16th or 17th, burglars broke into the model home of Megatel Homes located at 613 Elm Grove in Forney and stole a new “General Electric Stove Top valued at $ 700.00.”
Forney Police report “someone kicked in the back door and stole the stove out of the model home” and that they have no suspects at this time.
And lastly, a twenty-seven year old female Forney resident, whose name will be withheld, was arrested for attempting to “pass a fake one hundred dollar bill at the Valero Food Fast Convenience Store.”
On Friday evening July 14th at 5:05 p.m. the women approached the store clerk to pay for her purchase with a $ 100 dollar bill and then left the store when the store clerk became suspicious, leaving the fake currency behind.
Responding quickly, Forney Police officers easily located the women after she was seen traveling west bound towards US Hwy 80. She was placed her under arrest and charged with one count of “counterfeiting/forgery”.
