The swim teams of Forney High and North Forney High joined forces and swam as one team in last Saturdays, All Relay Swim Meet held at the J.J. Pierce Natatorium in Richardson, Texas.

Kicking off the day long swim meet, a team themed Halloween Parade was hosted by event organizers and each of the competing swim teams dressed up in a diverse variety of Halloween costumes and “paraded” around the pool just prior to the meet starting.

Dressed as hippies, the Forney Swim team joined in the parade and although they did not win the costume contest they had fun participating and then reverted to their assigned seating section to prepare to compete.

According to FISD Head Swim Coach Brandon Tunnell “it was an All Relay Meet and we had a lot of Top 10 finishes.”

The girls swim team relay highlights include the Women’s 200 Free Relay finishing 4th with a time of 2:18.65 with swimmers Kelly Mellot, Bailey Carlin, Jennifer Calvillo and Fiona Akoth.

The Women’s 400 Free Relay finished 9th with a time of 6:05.19, with swimmers Fiona Akoth, Mina Chatman, Heather Grimes and Stephanie Reamsbottom.

The Women’s 200 Breaststroke Relay finished 7th with a time of 3:17.08, with swimmers Savannah Davis, Karie Fry and Jennifer Calvillo.

And the Women’s 300 Medley Relay finished 6th with a time of 4:22.73, with swimmers

Savannah Davis. Kelly Mellott and Bailey Carlin.

Coach Tunnell proudly stated “out of 7 relays, the girl’s team finished in the top 10 in all but 1 relay.”

Boy swim team relay highlights included relays that finished in the top 12.

The Men’s 200 Back Relay finished 11th with a time of 2:51.94, with swimmers Cody McLeod, Colton Weatherall and Colton Killingsworth.

The Men’s 200 Breaststroke Relay finished 10th with a time of 2:58.75 with swimmers Colton Killingsworth, Colton Weatherall and Cody McLeod.

FISD Swim Coaches select a female and male Swimmer of the Meet and this meet produced two Female Swimmers of the Week, Nicole Brau from North Forney and Kelly Mellott from Forney High, while Colton Killingsworth from North Forney as selected the Male Swimmer of the Week.

Coach Tunnell stated “this was a great meet for us. We swam together and we were able to drop time off our relays. I am impressed with how our team handled swimming in a meter pool, which is longer than the 25 yard pool that we practice in, and usually compete in. They did a great job adapting and it shows by how well they placed in the events. I am looking forward to seeing us take this momentum into our next meet at Carrolton-Farmers Branch on Saturday, November 7th.”
