The Forney Jackrabbits and the Terrell Tigers competitively square off every year and Friday night the Tigers arrived in Forney to play their old rival at City Bank Stadium.
Both sides of the stadium quickly filled up with fans and the Forney High ROTC presented the colors as the Forney Mixed Choir sang the National Anthem to officially open the game.
During the first half of the game both teams seems complacent and although they were able to move the ball up and down the field neither team was able to score and half time arrived with a score of 0-0.
However, it seemed that the bands, drill and flag corps of both schools indeed brought their A-games, as both team’s half time performances were awesome.
In keeping with the Halloween holiday, the Terrell Tigerettes dressed as Zombies performed, along with a Michael Jackson impersonator, to Thriller which was expertly played by the THS Marching Band.
The Forney High Marching Band also provided an outstanding half time show where they performed with the Forney Flag Corps and were then followed on the field by the Forney High Steppers who dressed as hippies to dance to a collection of Beatles songs.
Unlike the first half of the game, the second half was an intense and fairly rough game as both teams strived to win. Both teams played hard and several times hard hitting bordered on unsportsmanlike conduct as both teams fought to put points on the scoreboard.
Both the Jackrabbits and the Tigers received several penalties and occasionally fumbled the ball however the Tigers were finally able to score three back to back touchdowns with the quick fire throws of THS Quarterback Guy Kennedy, changing the score to 21-0.
Fiercely fighting back, the Jackrabbits rallied late in the game as FHS Quarterback Blake Branton threw two touchdowns and a two point conversion bringing the score to 15-21 with less than three minutes left in the game.
With fans on both sides standing and yelling, late in the fourth quarter it looked as if the Jackrabbits would score a touchdown to win the game but it just was not in the cards this year.
With less than a minute left to play, FHS Quarterback Branton threw a pass that was intercepted in the Forney end zone giving the Tigers possession of the ball on the twenty yard line and inadvertently ending the game Terrell 21, Forney 15.
